Change to Nouveau drivers

Hi,

New to kicksecure. Clean install (nvidia 40xx series).

It uses VESA drivers, thus max res is 1200x800. Got no options to change to 1920*1080 in display manager?!

Xrandr gives some errorcode with FAILED TO OUTPUT GAMMA something something. Display is not found “unknown display”.

How do I change to Nouveau? Do I need to enroll DKMS for the driver to load?

All other distros I have tried loads nouveau automatically and shows 1920*1080 in display manager.

This is in the HOST OS. Both in sysmaint and user, VESA driver loaded. Too low resolution for my eyes

Nouveau is the default. No user action required.

Same as on Debian. Should be unspecific to Kicksecure.

Can likely br resolved as per:

@Patrick thank you sir for answering.

As i suspected, nouveau should load automatically when using Nvidia GPU. Since it is in linux mainkernel. I have googled similar fixes for debian, bookworm, even general linux distros…

Nothing works. “Failed to load module; nouveau” in logs.

Cant force load it with modprobe, terminal says it cant find path. Cant force it with GRUB “e” option nouveau.modeset=1.

Im a complete linux noob so it is hard for me to do even simple things like this..

I did install kicksecure live iso to USB then I installed kicksecure OS on another USB. Can this be a reason for the failed driver initialization? Could it make a difference if I install it onto my NVME drive instead?

Trying to make the switch from windows so wanted to try it on a USB first, but unable to solve the nouveau driver issue…

Highly unlikely.

Im very grateful for the replies.

Have done some more troubleshooting. Could it be related to BIOS settings?

Kicksecure live iso (installation media) only gives 800*600.

Kicksecure USB (installed OS on USB).

With Secure Boot ON in bios, 1280x1024

With Secureboot OFF 1024x768.

Perhaps I have some bios setting that is preventing the USB (OS installed) to fetch the GPU or Display?

Any guesses?

I would love to make the switch to increase my IT security after a hacker attack.

Nvidia drivers shouldn’t be an issue?
