Error during installation

I have tried to install kicksecure from my laptop twice (via the iso method) and keep getting this same error

Installation failed
External command finished with errors.
Details:
Command loadkeys “$(cat /dev/shm/fixcomkeys-layout)” finished with error code 1.
Output:
loadkeys:Unable to open file: gb: No such file or directory

Does anyone have a solution?

Hi, friend. This issue existed in the old version and was discussed here Locale layout installation error
I haven’t encountered this problem, and my friends haven’t either - we have different locales installed. Are you installing the latest version?

I installed it from the iso, latest stable xfce version on step 1 of the wiki. The link said ‘download kicksecure free’.

I am in the uk, were those locales also checked? It dosen’t seem to be mentiomed in the original post.

Reproduced issue when installing with “British English” locale. Some locales are weird in various ways that can confuse our installer setup, we try to test with several common locales (Arabic, English, German, Spanish, etc.), but some locales will still trip things up. Will investigate further.

Ugh. Looks like X11 calls the keymap for British English gb, but the corresponding Linux console keymap is uk. Fun. Will add some special-case handling.

A post was split to a new topic: Distribution Morphing versus ISO Installation Method Differences?

Is there any difference between the debian morph and kicksecure from the iso aside from the process of installing?

I could try that if it is going to take a while to fix.

Or you could go with the default en-US keyboard layout and change the keyboard layout after installation as per:

The differences between UK and US keyboard do not seem to be gigantic. Just perform a web search, see the differences and keep that in mind when typing any passwords (avoid the very few different special symbols).

But if I am changing my locales, won’t there be other issues, like slower downloads?
I would rather wait for the issue to be fixed to avoid any other issues that may arise.
Hopefully it won’t take too long to fix, for now I could just use another distro.

Would this be a difficult fix? If you could estimate the time it may take, I would appriciate it. Thanks

These sort of customization aren’t rocket science and don’t interact with the system in complex ways.

No, friend, changing the locales in the system does not affect the loading at all. And you can then delete the unnecessary locals. This is the easiest way. I used it last year.
