Kicksecure installation: Cannot set timezone. link creation failed, target /usr/share/timezone; link name: /etc/localtime

I have a problem installing the KickSecure version… Every time I reach the penultimate stage, it shows me: timezone failed. I tried my region and more than one region, but it was not resolved.

We might need the log to be able to debug this. Please provide.

Are you using manual partitioning, “replace partition”, or “install alongside” by any chance? If so, could you share with us the partition layout you’re setting?

FWIW I have tried two full installations and one “replace partition” installation of Kicksecure-Xfce-17.2.3.7.iso, and have not been able to reproduce this problem.

TL;DR: Make sure to use ext4 formatting for the Kicksecure partition.

FWIW, after hours of struggling, I noticed Patrick’s post: “So I create a live ISO with openSUSE’s …” So I tried a minimal Ubuntu install on the USB drive, then replaced it with Kicksecure and it worked!

Upon further research, I realized that I had misinterpreted the instructions regarding the EFI partition. It turns out that I needed to ensure it was FAT32/ExFAT for proper functioning, but I incorrectly assumed the Kicksecure partition required this format, too. Actually, the Kicksecure partition requires a Linux disk format, and I chose ext4. I was able to verify this was my issue by successfully installing Kicksecure on a second USB drive using an ext4 file system for the Kicksecure partition.

I hope this is helpful.

Very helpful. This was the foundation for @arraybolt3 who succeeded to diagnose the issue and translate it into a upstream calamares bug report.
