Libkmod: ERROR …/libkmod/libkmod-config.c:772 conf_files_filter_out: Directories inside directories are not supported: /etc/modprobe.d/virtualbox-dkms.conf

As per usual I boot up the machine and turn the fans down… first command is

sudo modprobe i8k force=1

which unexpectedly gives this erro:

libkmod: ERROR …/libkmod/libkmod-config.c:772 conf_files_filter_out: Directories inside directories are not supported: /etc/modprobe.d/virtualbox-dkms.conf

only thing I can think is that I ran the KickSecure SystemCheck. I’ve looked to try and see what’s happening

ps aux | grep virtualbox

user 55689 0.0 0.0 6340 2060 pts/0 S+ 09:51 0:00 grep --color=auto virtualbox

so virtualbox appears not to be running

this is mildly alarming. any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: I’ve purged virtualbox and the error is persisting.

The error means probably what it says.

And there’s no reason to be alarmed, see: Valid Compromise Indicators versus Invalid Compromise Indicators

Probably a VirtualBox issue. Was already reported against Debian.

Unspecific to Kicksecure.

Can be resolved as per:

This error message can be found on search engines.

I “lost” my user session in vs code. More painful than noisy fans…

Not sure how virtualbox came to be a problem as I wasn’t running it. Which is why I thought maybe Kicksecure’s System Check uses Virtualbox?

Support Request Policy applies.

It doesn’t.

Thanks for the reassurances. Haven’t the foggiest how this happened other than as you say it’s a flagged issue with the kernel. Good news is that my secondary command (i8kfan 0 0) works and all is peace and harmony again. And this isn’t a KickSecure OS issue. So I’ll toddle off…
