Random black screen with white ‘login’ prompt repeatedly appearing whilst using VM

Hi, just letting you know I ran this and received no errors.

I’m running out of ideas at this point. You might try running Prime95 on the host to stress-test the CPU, but be aware that it is source-available software, not freedom software. You might also try running a different host OS in case the issue is a bug in QEMU.

Hi, please could you recommend a replacement OS on the host machine. Also, if the replacement OS somehow has the same issue, would you recommend swapping hardware components as cost isn’t an issue.

Kicksecure can be run directly on physical hardware, and can be used as a host for Kicksecure VMs. Vanilla Debian 13 should also work. If you’re already using Kicksecure or Debian on the host, the OS likely isn’t an issue, although an application installed on the host might be the problem in which case a reinstall may fix things.

Trying a different computer would be useful. Since other hardware seems to be working, it’s hard to suggest which component to replace, so I would try using an entirely different computer if you have one available already. (You could also try removing half the RAM from the system to see if the issue is in the removed half of the RAM modules, then try swapping the removed and remaining RAM sticks if the issue persists.)
